The De- Bug SystemWe talked about the fact that there would always be people who tried to "bug" us. Therefore, it is important to know how to handle those situations when they occurred.
We reviewed the "De-Bug" Steps:
If a child has used all of the de-bug steps and is still being bothered, they should discuss the problem with an adult because it may have become a bullying situation that must be addressed and stopped immediatley. We talked about situations that must be reported right away and why it is important to report. |
Organization & Study SkillsStudents need to be organized to do well in school and good study skills begin with organization.
We found out that just about every student in the classroom had waited until the last minute to begin working on an assignment that was due the next day or before asking mom or dad to run out for supplies the night before a project was due. Students learned the secret that would prevent them from being in that situation again in the future: Plan Ahead!Students added two post-it notes to their agenda: one that allows them to easily open to the current date, and more importantly, a second one that takes them to the "Plan Ahead" page.
Students should look at their "Plan Ahead" page every night when they are doing homework. They can add upcoming due dates for homework assignments, projects, and tests; as well as look ahead to see what they have coming up so they can prepare in advance. Parent Idea - Ask your child to show you their plan ahead page. You can also help them add events that will occur outside of school so that they can plan to work ahead if a family event will be taking place the night before a test or project is due. |
